Local nonprofit reports seven sea turtle nests on Ocean Ridge beach, up from two last year

Jackie Lorne, executive director of Sea Turtle Adventures, told commissioners the nonprofit’s turtle crawl fundraiser raised more than $20,000 and thanked town staff and StarBright volunteers for assistance at the event. Lorne reported that as of the morning of the meeting her group had recorded seven nests on the 0.75-mile area they monitor—up from two nests at the same time last year—and said dredging near the beach could influence nesting patterns this season.
Lorne described the group’s monitoring practices (staking and roping nests) and explained that beaches use coded placards rather than explicit dates to protect nests from nighttime disturbance. Commissioners thanked the nonprofit and noted the town had helped make permitting straightforward for the event; Sea Turtle Adventures said it plans continued monitoring and outreach through the nesting season.
