The OPTN Executive Committee was told that OPTN has issued an announcement discontinuing a COVID-era listing practice that had, during the public health emergency, been used to manage patients who were temporarily not considered good candidates. The Chair said the practice "should cease" and that patients should be made inactive through standard mechanisms.
The Chair explained that the practice had allowed patients to be listed in relation to donors aged 98 to 99 and that a technological screening solution is being developed to ensure the criteria are not inadvertently entered into the donor-screening system. Committee members were given an opportunity to ask questions; no formal vote or further action on policy changes was recorded in open session.
