Council adopts 2026 historic‑building survey, staff to post report and note incentive resources

The North Platte City Council voted July 21 to receive and adopt the 2026 historic‑building survey prepared by Miller and Associates as an official city document.
A councilmember said, "This survey was pretty interesting. I enjoyed reading it," and asked how residents would access the information and whether there are assistance or grant programs for building owners. City staff responded that the report will be posted on the city website and on the Historic Preservation Commission page and that a section on preservation incentives appears around page 43. Staff also noted the report includes prior surveys (2009 and a county survey from 1993) and offered guidance on the separate process for National Register nominations.
Council discussion referenced previous facade grant programs and potential micro‑TIF applications as tools to help property owners with improvements. The council approved placing the survey on the public record and encouraged staff to make the incentive information readily available to owners who may qualify for assistance.
