North Platte council approves $152,372.60 grant‑funded bid for Iron Horse Park Trail

The North Platte City Council on July 21 authorized the mayor to negotiate and sign contract documents with Lehi LLC of North Platte for the final portion of the Iron Horse Park Trail, accepting a low bid of $152,372.60.
City staff explained the work before the council is Schedule 3 — the last portion that connects the trail back to the original trailhead — and said the segment will be an 8‑foot wide concrete trail. "The good news is that the project that is before you, will be a 100% funded by grants that the city has already received," City staff member Kevin said during the public hearing. Council members asked whether weather‑related delays could jeopardize grant funding; staff replied that no ARPA funds were involved and that the city has previously secured extensions when needed.
A representative of the Mid Nebraska Community Foundation, Leland Poppy, told the council his organization has funds available to cover any shortfalls: "We do have the funds in the accounts to support any difference there," he said, and thanked staff and donors for progress on multiple trail projects. After closing the public hearing, the council moved and approved the contract authorization for the Iron Horse Park Trail.
