The Pratt City Commission formally appointed and swore in Joseph Oler as the city's next chief of police during its July 21, 2025 meeting. City manager Regina Goff told commissioners the selection followed an extensive application and interview process with multiple rounds and a panel that included local department heads and an external police chief.
Goff said the panel interviewed several candidates and "we all, have a high level of confidence that Joe Uhler will be an excellent chief of police for the city of Pratt, Kansas." The oath was administered during the meeting and commissioners offered congratulations after Oler took the oath. The commission did not record a separate roll-call vote in the minutes beyond affirming the appointment and proceeding with the swearing-in.
The appointment follows the city's advertised hiring process and a second round of interviews that included outside expertise on law-enforcement administration. The city manager said the new chief will assume duties immediately; the commission did not list additional conditions or a probationary period at the meeting.
