Council endorses "Boneyard" as preferred transfer station site and authorizes special-use process

City staff and Planning & Zoning recommended a city-owned property known informally as the “Boneyard” (near Roosevelt Road 6, adjacent to the softball complex and a retention pond) as the preferred transfer station site. Community Services Director McClellan stressed the decision at this meeting was only to narrow the location so staff would not need to file multiple special-use applications and certified notices for several properties.
Council authorized staff to proceed with the special-use-permit application for the Boneyard, directed certified letters to property owners within 100 feet for public notice and advised that PNZ and a public hearing will review operations and design. McClellan said the station is intended to be odorless and operate without overnight holding of refuse; design and operating details will be considered in later hearings.
