Council reviews claims, including water‑line relocation and church concrete project

Council members reviewed and approved the claims presented by staff, with discussion focused on recent utility and construction work. Public works staff explained that they abandoned an older six‑inch water main (estimated to have been built in the 1930s–40s), capped it and rerouted service lines to avoid future problems; the work included installing a new meter pit and providing service to railroad office buildings. Staff said hydrants in the affected area were also removed because they were of questionable reliability.

A $44,295 line item related to concrete work for a Catholic church parking correction and other construction items was noted; staff explained why the city’s procurement policy needed higher thresholds, saying unforeseen subsurface conditions can raise costs and create the need to adjust claims. City staff thanked the railroad and individuals who assisted with the project and said future mapping will include the revised infrastructure location. The council approved the claims on roll call.

City manager and staff also reviewed sidewalk replacement and a Parks pickleball court invoice (noting a wrong address on one invoice), and the manager thanked staff for help with Trade Days.
