Rodriguez said the district expects approximately 5,400 staff to attend the kickoff and that the backpack giveaway, which provided about 700 students backpacks last year, is being expanded to serve about 850 Stockton Unified students this year. "We're preparing for 850 students to get JanSport backpacks," Rodriguez said, adding that ParentSquare will be used to notify and register families and that materials will be available in the language families select. Rodriguez said the giveaway and a staff video are part of an emphasis on "whole child, whole family, whole community." Trustees thanked staff and highlighted parade participation that showcased district students and programs.
