Reed said NNDC is pursuing two loan opportunities (one in Chadron, one in Gordon) and wants to get available loan funds into the market to support local businesses. “We have a large amount of grants and co loans available for child care and new business startup expansion,” Reed told the council, saying he has engaged with two local families about early-stage childcare efforts. He described NNDC’s Good Life Spotlight series, the first of which featured the Museum of the Fur Trade, and said about 30 people had already responded to the upcoming event.
Reed also noted federal disaster‑relief loan eligibility tied to recent fires: he said 16 counties in Nebraska were designated for disaster relief and that contiguous counties were included for eligibility, adding that the program is aimed at brick‑and‑mortar businesses and was straightforward to apply for. The council thanked Reed for the update; he said NNDC plans further outreach on childcare and housing and will continue to pursue loans that can be deployed locally.
