Board shifts summer-school pay from flat $25 to teachers’ hourly rate to boost participation

The Jenkins Independent Board of Education approved an amendment April 28 to change payment for ESA summer-school and home-hospital certified staff from a flat $25 per hour to each employee’s standard hourly rate. The district said the change is intended to improve participation in summer programs.
Superintendent explained the rationale: "I just feel like it's time that we move that to their hourly rate... I think we'll get better participation in those areas if we do that," and estimated the fiscal impact as "maybe under $2,000 a year." Board members moved and seconded the change and approved it by voice vote.
