County pitches Ferry Road infrastructure to enable about 645 affordable housing units

"It's one of the county's most significant recovery challenges is housing," Tyler said, explaining that the proposal focuses on enabling development rather than directly building housing. Commissioners asked whether other corridors (for example, Cox Avenue) represented higher unmet need; staff replied Cox Avenue is in better position currently but Ferry Road scored higher because of project readiness and eligibility constraints.
Staff noted the county had shared the opportunity with the Ferry Road master development partner, Urban Atlantic, and that developers are eligible applicants for the multifamily round. The project remains in an early planning stage; staff will continue developing scopes and assessing competitiveness under the state's scoring priorities before returning to the board for final authorization.
