Council authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with the acting Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney to ensure continuity of prosecution services for town code violations while the county office transitions. Warner explained that the Commonwealth's Attorney is a constitutional position defined in state code, and towns contract individually to secure local enforcement assistance; Wes Nance resigned effective March 31 to accept a judicial appointment.
The authorization was presented by Town Attorney Mike Lockaby and approved unanimously on a motion by Todd Foreman, seconded by David Foster. Council noted that once a permanent incumbent is seated the town will renegotiate engagement with the new Commonwealth's Attorney.
