Bedford to buy 3 MW of natural-gas power through AMP; town to host AMP town hall April 14
Summary
Council authorized the purchase of up to 3 MW of natural-gas-generated power (1 MW for 15 years) through American Municipal Power and announced an AMP town hall April 14 to explain power sourcing; staff recommended expanding town-owned behind-the-meter solar instead of AMP solar participation.

Council authorized staff to obtain up to 3 MW of natural-gas-generated power from an AMP-backed facility, with staff recommending 3 MW of natural gas for 15 years to better match winter demand. Electric Director John Wagner told council the town would be able to lock in about 70% of the cost; the remainder remains subject to state regulatory activity. Wagner said the contract could make power available as of July 1 if approved.
Warner and staff also advised against participating in AMP’s remote solar project and instead urged the town to expand its own behind-the-meter solar generation (a permit is underway to roughly double the existing solar facility at the closed landfill, potentially adding 2–5 MW). Council approved the natural-gas purchase unanimously; Warner invited residents to an AMP information session April 14 at 6:00 p.m. in council chambers.
