The Town Council approved a deed of confirmation and release April 7 that assigns certain parcels on the reservoir side of Weets Valley Road to the Bedford Regional Water Authority (BRWA). Town Attorney Mike Lockaby summarized the legal background (including a 2013 ordinance and deed) and said the authority had a reasonable argument about ambiguity in earlier paperwork; council voted unanimously among members present to authorize the conveyance.
The measure follows a March–May exchange of letters and counsel edits culminating in BRWA’s February 17, 2026 recommendation that the deed be reformed. Warner said the town retained parcels on the opposite side of Weets Valley Road and is pursuing conservation and minimal-impact uses for that land, possibly in partnership with the authority. Council discussed litigation risk and legal costs but concluded negotiated resolution was preferable to protracted litigation; the roll-call vote recorded all present as voting aye, meeting the supermajority requirement for conveyances of town property.
