Council authorizes IGA to let Woodburn seek CDBG food-safety grant

The council voted unanimously to authorize an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) that lets the City of Woodburn apply for a state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to acquire and stock substantial food supplies for a regional food bank serving Gervais and nearby communities.
City staff told the council the city’s role is nominal: Woodburn will run the program, compile the required legal and financial documents and be the lead grantee. “Woodburn runs the program,” a staff member said, adding the request is to authorize either the mayor or city staff to sign the IGA on the city’s behalf. The staff member said Woodburn will handle grant administration and the paperwork required by the state agency.
Council members and others at the meeting praised the food bank’s service to residents and agreed the city should publicize access once details are finalized. A council member who seconded the motion said the program would benefit residents who may not be aware of the resource. The motion was seconded and the mayor called a roll; the council recorded unanimous approval.
