Hot Springs resource center operating as cooling shelter receives $100,000 Levi Foundation grant

City Manager Bill Burrow told the Hot Springs Board on July 21 that the municipal Community Resource Center at 109 Hobson Avenue is operating as a cooling shelter as triple‑digit heat returns to the region. "Yesterday alone, the center welcomed 158 people seeking services and relief from the heat while also serving a record 135 lunches," Burrow said, and he encouraged donations of fresh fruit, bottled water and snacks.
Burrow also announced that Friends of the Hot Springs Community Resource Center received a $100,000 grant from the Levi Foundation to support utility and rental assistance, medication help, transportation, veteran services and assistance securing identification and birth certificates. The funding was described as the first of an annual grant opportunity to provide ongoing support for the center's services.
City officials said the Community Resource Center is open Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and this weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; staff reminded residents that donated items may be dropped off at the center.
