Library and museum report strong summer programming and community savings from checkouts

Library Director Jeff Vogel and librarian Trish Wilson presented the library’s Q2 highlights: nearly $1.86 million in community savings from checkouts year‑to‑date, 68,000 checkouts over the last three months, 1,500 program attendees and expanded passport services. "So at year so far, $1,860,000 saved just by using your local library," Vogel said, noting summer reading and outreach programs and a plan for passport fairs.
Museum Director Brett Lunsford highlighted new story‑map resources and sold‑out historical cruises around Fidalgo Island that support the museum foundation. Lunsford credited community artifact donations and community partnerships, including collaboration with the Samish Indian Nation on presentations. Both departments said they are on track with budgets and will continue to develop volunteer and fundraising partnerships.
