Commission proclaims August Child Support Awareness Month; staff reports $13.5M collected for county children

The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation July 21 recognizing August as Child Support Awareness Month. Susan Dillon and staff presented the proclamation language and highlighted the role of child support dollars in meeting children’s health, education and maintenance needs.
During the presentation staff corrected a previously circulated figure. A staff speaker stated, “We anticipated 12,500,000. We actually ended up collecting 13,500,000.” The proclamation text included the county’s reporting that the collections supported more than 4,570 Cabarrus County children in state fiscal year 2025–2026. The board approved the proclamation by recorded vote (5‑0).
Speakers noted the county’s role in coordinating with judges, clerks of court, sheriff’s personnel and other child support professionals to establish and enforce support orders.
