Second South utilities project: residents largely opt into sewer replacements; work to start late April

City staff told the Board of Aldermen that the Second South project’s utilities work is scheduled to begin with contractor mobilization around the 27th of the month, with major road work possible by late June or early July. Staff reported they conducted door-to-door outreach and said 18 property owners agreed to replace sewer services, three declined and four responses remained outstanding.
Director Squires described the cost structure for the voluntary replacements: there is a minimum charge for short runs and a per-foot price for longer connections; staff noted a per-foot charge of $90 above the minimum for longer runs. "18 yeses, three nos, and four outstanding," Director Squires said when reporting resident responses. Council and staff agreed to use email updates and weekly informational videos to keep affected residents informed and to mitigate inconvenience.
