Council probes town's costs for events and special-event fee policy

"Our fee currently recovers 20% the way it's written," staff said, and council discussed moving that recovery rate higher for non-legacy events to reduce net cost. Several business owners on the dais said Centerfest and the parade increase retail sales and downtown activity, but council asked staff to survey businesses to measure benefits and sensitivity to higher event fees.
Council also discussed fee waivers for legacy events (holiday parade, fireworks in partnership with the county), sponsorship models, and the possibility of negotiating in-kind contributions (maintenance or capital improvements) from event organizers to offset municipal costs.
