Councilman asks board to join town communications committee, outlines citizens police academy

During public participation, Councilman George Lato asked the school board to consider appointing a board member or a student to serve on a town communications committee meant to improve outreach through the town website, social media and newsletters.
“The committee is looking for ways to explore to connect with residents through the town website and other social media platforms and newsletters,” Lato said, asking the board to consider participation or a student representative. He said the committee plans to meet weekly until its work is complete.
Lato also announced a citizens police academy scheduled from April 1 through May 20, meeting 6–9 p.m., and described planned demonstrations including K9 presentations and a DUI simulator. He called it an opportunity to “educate the public on what the police do in the town.”
The board did not take action on the request at the meeting but the comment was recorded as public participation and interested residents were directed to contact the speaker or town hall for more information.
