Sheriff Clark Baker requested the commission's permission to hire Grayson Bruce Hosey as a deputy sheriff to fill one of two open slots in the sheriff's office. Baker said Hosey grew up locally, is a member of the West Virginia National Guard, and has passed civil-service requirements, background checks, medical and psychological evaluations.
"He's a fine young man. I think he'll do a great job for us," Baker said, adding that Hosey must attend the state police academy and complete field training before serving independently. Commissioners voted by voice to allow the sheriff to proceed with the hire.
