Historic preservation committee says New Jersey Historic Trust found application for local house "very strong" after site visit

Chair opened the meeting by summarizing an on-site review with a New Jersey Historic Trust representative of the committees grant application for the historic house. The reviewer examined the exterior and main floors (not the basement) and described the application as "very strong," the Chair said.
Dante, who summarized follow-up discussions with the Trust, said the Trust indicated it receives more than 100 applications and will present final recommendations to its board in September. "They tend to be generous with these historic site management grants," Dante said, adding, "We'll find out at the end of September." Committee members agreed that starting with a site-management grant โ rather than seeking capital construction funding first โ was the correct strategy because the Trust does not want to fund construction absent a long-term, well-thought-out plan.
The committee also discussed next steps if the management grant is awarded: drafting a stewardship plan, coordinating with township staff for any necessary surveys, and identifying fundraising or advisory structures to support future capital work. The Chair said he would keep the committee updated as the Trust completes its review and issues recommendations.
