Superintendent reports major summer HVAC work, new preschool classrooms and school-based health center

District leadership told the board the district is undertaking substantial summer facilities work, including major HVAC improvements that have closed Montecristo and Mountain Way schools to the public while renovations proceed. Administrators said HVAC upgrades will focus first on heating for fall and winter, with additional air-conditioning work scheduled later in the cycle.

Executive Director Moore reported that Crossroads High School has shifted classrooms upstairs to make room for three new preschool classrooms downstairs, expanding early-learning capacity. Moore also said the Granite Falls High School will receive a school-based health center operated by CHC, funded through a grant that "is no cost to the district." She described counseling-center renovations and said the high-school entrance will receive speed bumps near crosswalks to slow traffic and improve student safety.

Board members asked clarifying questions about HVAC timing, AC vs. heating sequencing, and classroom placements. Moore named staff involved in multilingual-learner screening and noted an increase in newcomer learners from 11 to 20 students year over year. The board praised staff for summer work and the progress on facilities.
