Board authorizes phase 1 of levy-funded athletic field improvements

The Granite Falls School District board accepted the levy-funded athletic fields improvement committee's recommendation and authorized the superintendent to proceed with phase 1 planning and design for Fields 1 and 6 and the high-school tennis courts.
Director Greg Farley moved the recommendation, which included a phased approach and the intent to install multiuse synthetic turf on Fields 1 and 6, field lighting, resurfacing and modernization of the tennis courts to enable pickleball and basketball uses, and use of a progressive design-build delivery model consistent with procurement rules. The motion directed the superintendent to return to the board for approval of guaranteed maximum prices, construction contracts or other expenditures requiring board authorization prior to starting construction.
Board members said the phased approach is intended to allow improvements without putting the district into a "big hole" financially and noted robust public participation in the levy committee. The board approved the motion by voice vote.
