Paul Brogner, cochair of the Highway Safety Advisory Committee, and Officer Matt Kent of the Duxbury Police Department presented a brief one-page guide on e-bike and e-scooter safety developed with student input. Officer Kent summarized Massachusetts class 1 and class 2 e-bike definitions and stressed that many devices exceed 20 mph, creating potential motor-vehicle-class consequences for users and serious safety risks for young riders.
Board members praised the one-pager’s clarity and directed staff to circulate it through schools, the police department and town media. The board formally endorsed the document and thanked committee members and the student contributors for the outreach material that emphasizes parental responsibility, helmet use and where e-bikes/scooters are allowed.
