Public works staff and trustees reported a productive meeting with Madisons engineers about coordinating the Sherman Avenue gateway project, which touches both Maple Bluff and Madison. The two municipalities currently have different tentative construction years (Maple Bluff aiming for 2028, Madison for 2029), and Madison raised the possibility that Maple Bluff could manage the entire corridor and bill Madison for its portion.
Tom, the department's experienced public works leader, stressed the need for adequate onsite engineering oversight should Maple Bluff take on more of the work: "If they were digging, they were being watched and they were going to make meet every specification," he said, arguing for engineers onsite during construction and coordination between Town & Country consultants and Madison engineers. Staff will meet internally to produce a timeline and advise the board on whether joint management is feasible.
