Director of Racing Alex Lightbomb briefed the commission on the recently held Spirit of Massachusetts race day at Planebridge Park (packet materials referenced). He thanked track staff and local horsemen, noted that purses for both of the big races were raised by $50,000 this year under an agreement with the track and horsemen, and highlighted winners: TwinB Joe Fresh won the Clara Barton and surpassed $3 million in lifetime earnings; Spirit of Mass was won by Alexis Cody, whose earnings rose to just under $3 million.
Lightbomb also said veterinarians and testing staff doubled the testing for a special day of this scale and that the licensing group processed roughly 40 event-specific licenses. "It was a wonderful day," Lightbomb said, adding that the crowd was larger than recent years and that track staff performed well. Commissioners commended staff and members who presented trophies at the event.
