City prepares for Waverly Daze, reports vandalism at new restroom and schedules hydrant painting

Maintenance Supervisor Jason Karels updated the council on event and routine maintenance work ahead of Waverly Daze. He reported that pickleball court signs were installed, staff member Colton completed pre-event painting and touch-ups (including lift-station control panels), a street sweeper is scheduled for the week of July 6, and three additional portable restrooms will be added at the park as a precaution. Fire hydrant painting is planned to match recently painted hydrants along Highway 12.
Karels also reported the first act of vandalism at the new restroom facility — toilet seat covers were stuffed into toilets and flushed — and raised a separate concern that vehicles had been observed parking near the lift station at Railroad Park; he said he would address that directly. In other business, council members reported an incident in which an estimated 100 motorcycles parked in front of the fire station during a group stop at the Uptown bar, blocking apparatus access. The council directed staff to send a formal reminder to the adjacent business that parking in front of the fire station is prohibited and to report future violations to the Sheriff’s Office.
