City council workshop sets near-term budget and planning priorities

The City Council convened a goal-setting workshop in November 2025 to review objectives across finance, public safety, community development, economic development, transportation and growth management. Facilitator Beth Wykowski, Regional Solutions Coordinator at the governor’s office, laid out a draft goals list and led the council through a ranking exercise to help staff prioritize work for the next budget cycle.
Councilors designated several immediate priorities — including completing a budget analysis, updating accounting records, hiring and recruiting public safety staff, and advancing the pump upgrade project — and gave staff direction to pursue state and federal grant opportunities where available. “A 1 is something that you’d like to see in the next budget cycle,” Wykowski said while explaining the ranking system that will inform staff time and grant coordination. The facilitator said she will distribute the revised priority key and an outward-facing packet summarizing council choices for public review.
