Kentucky Attorney General: nearly 7,800 child sexual abuse reports in 12 months, 29% increase

The Kentucky Attorney General told attendees that from July 2024 to July 2025 local multidisciplinary teams in the Commonwealth reported "almost 7,800 new cases" of child sexual abuse, which he said represents a 29% year-over-year increase. "If there's a statistic that you take from our time today, it's a chilling one," he said.
He enumerated the types of offenses covered by the protocol, saying the caseload includes rape, incest, sodomy, human trafficking involving commercial sexual activity, and production of child sexual abuse material (C-SAM). The attorney general framed the increase as unacceptable and said the office will continue collaborating with law enforcement, prosecutors and medical professionals to address the rise.
