Kentucky Attorney General unveils updated Kentucky Model Protocol for child sexual abuse cases

The Kentucky Attorney General announced an updated "Kentucky Model Protocol" designed to coordinate local multidisciplinary teams responding to child sexual abuse and to reduce secondary trauma to victims. "It's a blueprint. It's a modernized blueprint for child sexual abuse cases," the Attorney General said, adding the protocol is intended for use across the Commonwealth's 15 child advocacy centers.

The attorney general said the protocol packs decisional matrices and flow charts that tell practitioners "if X we do Y" to speed and standardize responses. He credited colleagues Ramsey Donahue and Erica Pasquini from the Office of the Attorney General and said the commission produced the first update in five years. The office plans statewide trainings to move the protocol into practice rather than leaving it as a shelf document.
