Gateway Connector resurfacing contract signed; city to evaluate dead trees and coordinate utility work

Fairmont signed a contract for an approximately $1.5 million Gateway Connector resurfacing. City staff will coordinate tree removals with B&F Landscaping and B&O Railroad and continue talks with Mon Power on an LED streetlight conversion after replacing about 50 fixtures on Speedway Avenue.
The City Manager told council that the Gateway Connector asphalt resurfacing contract has been signed and that the city is looking at an approximately $1.5 million project to resurface that corridor. He said work is expected to begin soon and staff will share timing details with Council and the public.
The manager also reported staff observed several trees along the Connector that appear to be dead and are being evaluated with B&F Landscaping; if removals are needed the city will coordinate with B&O Railroad to address them during the resurfacing work. Separately, he credited Mon Power for replacing about 50 lights on Speedway Avenue with LEDs and said the utility and city are discussing a three-year plan for a broader conversion.
