Police union tensions surface; council accepts small JAG grant for overtime

Timothy Young, president of PBA Local 66, used the public-comment period to express concern that the police union contract remained unsettled and that negotiations had deteriorated in recent weeks. He said the union had sought outside assistance and that arbitration appeared likely if the parties do not reach an agreement. Council President Papero declined substantive comment because negotiations were active but said the Council "will get there."
Separately, as part of the consent agenda, Council authorized acceptance of a 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award and an agreement with Mercer County to fund overtime operations to "proactively combat surges in crimes," with a grant award recorded at $26,924.
