MCPS staff described a multi-pronged engagement effort that included student focus groups at multiple high schools, a design team composed of community members and staff, a countywide survey that yielded more than 10,000 pieces of feedback, and webinars that gathered questions. Staff said they will post FAQs and slide decks and analyze webinar analytics (zip codes and school affiliations) to target outreach where participation was low.
Councilmembers pushed for stronger, representative outreach and asked MCPS to return with documentation of who was engaged so council offices can provide feedback and help amplify outreach. "I would like to see the list of who you engaged on all the stakeholders we talked about, in written form, so that we can give feedback," Vice President Giwanda said. MCPS agreed to present updated materials to the Board and to coordinate a December update for the council.
