Gladstone pursues stopgap river-rescue coverage on busy and extreme-heat days; cost to city reduced to ~$12K

Gladstone parks staff told the board the city reached a short-term agreement to restore some river-rescue coverage this summer while longer-term funding is explored.
Jackie said city staff, Oregon City and Clackamas County agreed to a stopgap in which AMR will staff High Rocks Park on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day) and on days when the heat index reaches 90°F or higher. The cost to Gladstone was described as roughly $12,000–$13,000 for the season; staff noted an earlier estimate to fully fund AMR coverage had been about $250,000.
Staff said the contract would be on the City Council agenda the following night and that longer-term funding would likely require conversations with the Board of County Commissioners because the county holds the primary contract with AMR.
