Sheriff reports rising thefts, announces community events and 2027 Aladena Forever Run

Captain Marquez of the Altadena Sheriff Station reported that overall crime remains below 2024 levels but that thefts are trending upward, prompting a targeted focus on theft mitigation. "If you do want to report a crime... our business line is 626-798-1131. If it is an emergency, 911 is always the most effective way," he said.
Marquez also announced community engagement events: a haunted-jail fundraiser planned for Oct. 24, 2026 with local high-school performers, and the Aladena Forever Run scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 10, 2027, with SoCal Gas confirmed as the title sponsor. Parks and sheriff-support volunteers will participate; organizers expect roughly 5,000 runners and say proceeds benefit fire survivors.
The California Highway Patrol provided a June traffic summary: Officer Keller said there were 11 traffic collisions in June with five parties injured, one hit-and-run, two bicycle collisions (minor injuries) and one motorcycle collision. CHP emphasized basic driver behaviors to reduce crashes and introduced the new local COPS officer (Officer Para) to the community.
