Board approves consent agenda; members ask about track, parking and two-way communications

Richland One's board approved the July 21 consent agenda, which included contract renewals and capital projects ranging from software subscriptions to a Meadowfield parking-lot project and replacement of the Owensfield track.
Commissioner Divine and other board members asked staff about the Meadowfield parking-lot timeline and traffic impacts; procurement staff said once the purchase order is issued the construction period is anticipated to be about 90 days. "After that, we anticipate that we would have a 90-day construction period," a district project manager said when describing scheduling and permitting considerations.
The board also discussed two-way communications for transportation and security. Mr. Brown explained that the two-way communications item refers to dedicated radio devices for buses and security rather than the district's online parent-communication platform. "Two-way communication here is referring to ... our walkie-talkies basically for transportation and security," Mr. Brown said, and he described the district's move to a vendor that supports statewide broadcasting without requiring repeated hardware replacements.
The consent agenda passed unanimously and staff said they will coordinate construction timing and communications with schools and partners during projects.
