Resident delivers petition seeking 20 mph limits and no-through-traffic signs near Forest Home

Resident Richard Barts presented a petition during public comment asking the city to reduce posted speeds and reconfigure traffic at the frontage/service drive off Forest Home Avenue. Barts said the petition lists streets including 90th, 88th, 87th, Melody Lane and Woodlon and seeks 20 mph limits with 'caution children present' signs, 'no through traffic' posting, and that KinderCare patrons be directed to use Forest Home Avenue for ingress and egress only.
"We have 60 homes. We have approximately 30 children," Barts told the council, saying some drivers use the service drive and travel at high speeds; he asked the city to enforce changes and referred staff to a packet of measurements, municipal code citations (chapter 8 traffic code 8.03, chapter 20 subdivision and plotting, chapter 11 public nuisance) and a map. Council members directed staff to give the petition to the Board of Public Works for follow-up.
Barts suggested curb reconfiguration at KinderCare if signage and traffic control do not resolve the problem. He said he had already contacted the police and attempted direct outreach to KinderCare patrons and asked the city to treat the petition seriously to prevent potential injuries.
