City reports vacuum-truck repair success and outlines new blue-can rollout and enforcement

Public works reported that a recent break in a 14-inch force main was repaired more quickly because of a newly acquired vacuum truck; staff said a job that once could take two hours was completed in about 40 minutes. Mayor and council members thanked public works for the rapid repair.
Sanitation staff also described the rollout of replacement blue curbside cans and a pickup program for old cans. Staff said the program is largely successful, with the remaining issues consisting of missed deliveries and some rental properties needing additional cans. The city said enforcement of screening-from-view requirements is underway and that residents who repeatedly place extra bags or continue to use old cans could face excess-trash charges or be provided a second blue can after repeated violations.
