Tinley Park trustees reopen parking rules after safety, event and overnight concerns

Trustees spent the meeting’s most substantive discussion on Item 10, a review of parking ordinances affecting downtown event parking, general parking patterns and overnight parking enforcement. A staff member said a plan prepared by a former traffic safety officer is in place and will be reviewed at the next unified command meeting; “we have a plan in, place that, 1 of our former traffic safety officers put together that we're gonna review at the next unified command meeting,” the staff member said.

The Chair raised safety and access concerns tied to event parking, saying, “I just shake my head every time I see these homes are nowhere near Oak Park Avenue, and they have parking limits in front of their house,” and warned that event parking can impede emergency vehicles: “you can't get engines down 100 And 73rd.” A committee member recommended treating event, general and overnight parking as three separate policy buckets and asked staff to return with recommendations for the August board meeting schedule. The board also commended McGill Construction and Public Works for quickly striping and opening a temporary lot for a recent event.
