Master schedules set; optimizer met 96%–97% of student requests, district to release schedules Aug. 1

District officials said the scheduling optimizer satisfied most student core-class requests (East 96%, West 97%, PMSA 94%) and reported average class sizes between 22 and 26; student schedules will be released in PowerSchool on August 1.
Dr. Perus told the board the district’s master schedules for the three buildings are finalized after work with an optimizer tool that met 96% of core-class requests at Proviso East, 97% at Proviso West and 94% at PMSA. "This was able to automatically build schedules that met 96% of the student requests for core classes at East, 97 at West and 94 at PMSA," he said.
He reported average class sizes of roughly 22–23 at East, 23–24 at West and about 26 at PMSA, and said those averages are below the union threshold of 30. The district plans to turn student schedules on in PowerSchool on August 1 and said it has blank schedules ready for unexpected incoming freshmen so they are not left without classes on day one. Board members asked about sixth assignments; district staff said additional pay for a sixth assignment is approximately $9,800.
