District to assign full-time case managers to reduce teacher coordination burden

District leaders described a structural change that will replace a brief teacher case-management period with full-time case managers who will monitor accommodations, attendance and progress and coordinate with classroom teachers. The presenter explained that an earlier model relied on a single period (about 50 minutes) per day for teachers assigned case-management duties and that the new approach is intended to provide greater continuity and fidelity for IEP implementation.
"During that period, you were expected to be checking grades, making sure that you had...communication with the gened teachers," the presenter said, adding that dedicated case managers will now perform monitoring, outreach and coordination previously squeezed into that limited time. Board members said the change should ease teachers' workloads and help the district more closely monitor outplacements and step-down opportunities back into district programs.
