Authority opts for clamp-on flow meter after mag-meter failure; new mag meter would require costly piping work

The influent mag flow meter failed and staff said DAP Engineering provided a clamp-on flow meter as a loaner while a longer-term solution is considered. Clean Water Ops explained that installing a replacement mag meter at the original location would require about seven feet of uninterrupted ductile-iron pipe and substantial plumbing work, which staff judged unnecessary because the clamp-on transmits needed data to SCADA.
"So it's a little further from where the old Magnino was, but it doesn't get I see no advantage to having going through the extra expense to get a like for like replacement when this will work perfectly fine," the Clean Water Ops representative said. Staff said the clamp-on unit was ordered and due to ship the next day, with installation likely by the first week of August.
