Patrick said he transports large items "once or twice a week" and described repair costs to his personal vehicle while performing city work. Chad identified a proposed van at roughly $51,000 and a necessary backup system replacement budgeted at about $91,000; he also requested modest raises for two staff members.
Council members probed alternatives such as vehicle allowances, repurposing existing fleet vehicles and whether a box truck might serve broader needs. Staff noted earlier repurposing of an Explorer to emergency management duties and said a van offers versatile capacity without overbuilding.
