Council adopts annexation ordinance for 7854 White Oak Road to allow water connection

The Garner Town Council on July 21 unanimously adopted Ordinance 20265391 to annex an approximately 8.5-acre parcel at 7854 White Oak Road so the owner can connect to town water.
Planning Director Jeff Trezenberg told the council the parcel contains a single-family residence and the owner petitioned to annex because of ongoing well problems and a desire to tie into Garner’s public system. Applicant Fahad Ahmed said he purchased the property last year and needs water service to keep a tenant: “We bought this property last year and wanted to have a tenant, but there is no water there,” he told the council. Trezenberg confirmed the annexation is contiguous and that the town advertised the public hearing.
After brief council questions and no opposition from speakers, Council Member Matthews moved to adopt the annexation ordinance and Council Member Vance seconded the motion. Mayor Gupton conducted a voice vote, which passed unanimously.
The annexation ordinance will be processed administratively with staff and the owner to complete the water connection and paperwork. The council’s action brings the property into Ganer’s municipal taxing and service boundaries and enables the owner to seek a permit to connect to Garner’s water system.
