Bill opened the meeting and introduced Joe Mertenalzi to present the Department of Public Works update. "We have all of our summer help in," Joe said, but he added that the parks crew leader position has not yet been filled and the department is operating short-handed.
Joe described operational adjustments to cope with the staffing gap: prioritizing certain tasks, changing schedules and situational assignments so crews run "more efficiently than we ever have" despite being down a position. Committee members asked about hiring plans; Joe did not give a firm timeline for filling the crew-leader role but said the temporary measures have maintained services through the busy summer period.
