City staff (Ward) told council the GPD estimate for the trail is $477,000 and the city is requesting $75,000 from NatureWorks; Ward said counties receive allotments and the city opted to request a smaller amount (out of a $150,000 maximum) to increase the chance of award. "So it's a loop trail around the perimeter of the park... The trail is gonna be 477,000 is the estimate we got from GPD," Ward said. Councilmember Talbot pressed for clarity on total project cost and what line items would cover the local share; staff said the remainder would be covered by city funds and would be budgeted over the next one to two years. Councilmembers also emphasized that any phase plan should align with the park master plan and that resident surveys would precede construction of amenities.
The resolution authorizes application; staff noted award notifications are typically made in November. Council also requested that future grant applications and submitted materials be included in council packets when possible.
