The council introduced Ordinance 26-22 to amend the township’s affordable housing ordinance by removing a waiver provision in chapter 66 that previously allowed a waiver when strict compliance would cause an unreasonable result. Officials said the change is required by the Fair Share Housing settlement and will be referred to the planning board for a consistency review before the council considers final adoption.
Council completed a motion and roll-call to introduce the ordinance and set a public hearing for Aug. 17, 2026. A municipal official noted the change responds to the Fair Share Housing Corp. settlement and will limit the council’s ability to grant the particular waiver previously permitted in local code.
