Commission approves green-space exception for How Drive property to allow pool amid concerns over impervious coverage

The commission approved a green-space exception for 5901 How Drive to allow installation of a pool, deck and equipment pads, a request submitted by property owner Brandy Solberg. Planning staff reported the lot would be about 60.6% green space under the proposal and said staff was not opposed to the application.

Commission discussion raised concerns that the proposed patio and pool increased impervious coverage beyond the original patio and that prior approvals with similar coverage typically adjusted patios or other features to reduce impervious area. Staff and commissioners also discussed maintenance of infiltration basins, with one speaker saying the commission should "add to our list to revisit the Green Space we created" and to consider maintenance requirements for infiltration trenches. A motion to approve the plans and grant the green-space exception carried during the meeting.
